Find the green. It exists, and it’s waiting for you.

On April 22, we celebrate Earth Day.

This year’s theme of “Restore our Earth” calls on us to take bold action against climate change. At Oxford, we have been steadfast in doing our part to build spaces that are energy efficient, encourage wellbeing, consider the materials we use, and create outstanding places for our communities at-large.

This past year, many of us have had to create new workspaces to keep ourselves and others safe. Within these four walls comes a challenge in finding a balance between work / home, creating stimulating spaces that fuel the brain, or even finding ways to mimic the outdoors, inside, after months of lockdowns and winter.

So, what if we look outside our four walls - what do we see? We see green. For some, it might be the outdoor oasis in the backyard, or the local park down the road where you safely gather with friends. Or maybe, it’s your favourite tree where you get lost in a good book. Or perhaps, you’ve brought the outdoors in through indoor plants, or even photos of rivers, oceans, or mountains reminiscent of travelling the world?

Studies show that people who spend two hours a week in green spaces – local parks or other natural environments, either all at once or spaced over several visits – were substantially more likely to report good health and psychological wellbeing than those who don’t.

Bringing that thought back inside, studies have shown that benefits of nature can also be found indirectly, through views of nature from our windows or exposure to natural elements even in photographs and pictures on our walls.

This Earth Day, we challenge you to find the green. Now, more than ever, take notice of the green spaces. Tag us on Twitter (@OxfordPropGroup) and LinkedIn (@OxfordPropertiesGroup) and include the #OxfordEarthDay to share an outdoor space that brings you joy.

Find the green. It exists, and it’s waiting for you.
